Kona, Hawai'i
October 22, 2002

The strangling limitations of the English language forbid any possible expression.

Before October 22, we all shared a lifelong dream. A dream of connection. A dream of light. A dream of amazement. A dream of wonder. A dream of anticipation. Always present but never realized ... ...until we called John Float.

We laughed about the name (I , feeling quite entitled to do so given that my last name is "Inch"). We were told to drive south from Puako Road to the Marina, just south of the Kona Airport on the Big Island of Hawai'i and to arrive at 8:00 am sharp.

The magic of the day began the night before as all we could do was hope that we might catch a glimpse, merely a glimpse, of a spinner dolphin or a playful spotted dolphin off the Kona coast. My dreams that night were accented with the undeniable theme song from "Flipper." (I still can't get it out of my head)

We all piled into the cars and arrived at the Marina right on time. From the moment we saw John, we knew it would be a magical day.

As John's Hawaiian chant surrounded us, and carried us all into another time and space, an undeniable warmth and sense of belonging overcame us. The boat ventured along the coast and as we journeyed, we knew we had been invited into a sacred, yet mystical land of enchantment.

The images that follow, weave the tale. A tale of rapture and delight and complete wonder. Testament to the simple fact that there are beings in this world with greater understanding, greater wisdom, and greater acceptance and capacity to love than ourselves.
